TUDOR VINTAGE “HOMEPLATE” OYSTERDATE CHRONOGRAPH – Ref. 7031/0 – Stainless Steel – 1973 – Excellent Condition
We are proud to present this exceptionally rare and historically significant Tudor “Homeplate” Oysterdate Chronograph Ref. 7031/0, crafted in stainless steel and dating from 1973. This model represents one of Tudor’s earliest and most iconic chronographs — a true grail piece for vintage sports watch collectors.
Introduced in the early 1970s, the Ref. 7031/0 was part of Tudor’s first generation of chronographs, often affectionately referred to by enthusiasts as the “Homeplate”, due to the distinctive shape of its luminous hour markers, reminiscent of baseball home plates. These watches marked Tudor’s bold entry into the world of professional chronographs, distinguished by vibrant color contrasts and robust Oyster construction.
The 39 mm stainless steel case, produced by Rolex, features the signature screw-down pushers and crown, ensuring excellent water resistance and durability. The original black acrylic bezel insert with tachymeter scale remains one of the defining traits of the 7031/0 — a feature unique to this early reference.
The grey dial with striking black sub-dials and orange accents provides superb legibility and vintage flair. The date aperture at 6 o’clock and the red chronograph seconds hand add balance and vibrancy, hallmarks of Tudor’s daring 1970s design language.
At its heart, this chronograph is powered by the Valjoux 7734 manual-wind movement, a robust and reliable caliber known for its precision and ease of service.
This example is presented in excellent vintage condition, preserving strong case geometry and an attractive, well-aged dial with original tritium lume.
A cornerstone of Tudor’s chronograph history, the “Homeplate” 7031/0 stands as one of the most collectible vintage models in the brand’s heritage — a true icon that bridges the worlds of Tudor and Rolex with unmatched character and authenticity.
