Corum Rolls-Royce “Jumbo” 40 mm Ref. 55585, 18k White Gold, Manual Cal. 21 Ultra-Thin, 1979, with Matching 18k White Gold Cufflinks
In the 1970s Corum created a watch that paid tribute to one of the most famous cars in the world. With the official blessing of Rolls-Royce, the Swiss manufacture designed a watch whose case was shaped like the iconic radiator grille of a Rolls-Royce. It was a bold, playful idea, and it became one of Corum’s most memorable designs of the era. The large “Jumbo” version with its 40 mm case is especially rare today, and this example comes with something you will hardly ever find: a matching pair of white gold cufflinks.
The case is made of 18 karat white gold and recreates the famous grille in remarkable detail, with the vertical slats and the stately, upright shape that every car enthusiast recognizes instantly. The cool white gold gives the design an elegant, understated character, and despite its presence the watch is pleasantly flat on the wrist.
Inside works the manually wound Piaget caliber 21, one of the thinnest mechanical movements of its time. It is the reason the watch stays so slim, and winding it by hand each morning adds to the classic charm.
The watch is worn on a brand new black alligator strap, speically made for this piece, with an 18 karat white gold Corum pin buckle.
What makes this set truly special are the cufflinks. They are made of 18 karat white gold and feature the “Emily”, the nickname of the famous Spirit of Ecstasy, the winged figure that has graced the bonnets of Rolls-Royce cars for more than a century. Together with the watch, they form a complete set that captures the elegance of the Rolls-Royce world.
The watch dates from 1979 and is in very good condition.
"„An iconic and quite rare Corum Rolls-Royce in its largest size, complete with matching Emily cufflinks, and a true collector’s set!"
