Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Contemporaine Bi-Retrograde Ref. 86020/000R-9239, 18k Rose Gold, 2014
The Patrimony line is Vacheron Constantin’s tribute to pure, classic elegance. The Bi-Retrograde adds a touch of mechanical theater to that calm design. Instead of rotating discs or windows, the day and the date are shown by two hands that move along arcs. When they reach the end of their scale, they jump back to the beginning in an instant. It is a complication that is both practical and wonderfully poetic, and the oldest watch manufacture in the world executes it with great finesse.
The 42.5 mm case is made of 18 karat rose gold. Its slim profile, gently curved lugs and clean lines follow the classic Patrimony style. The warm tone of the rose gold gives the watch an elegant, refined presence.
The silvered dial is beautifully balanced. Two retrograde scales show the date and the day of the week, each with its own slender hand. The applied rose gold markers and the slim baton hands for the hours and minutes match the case perfectly, and the whole dial feels calm despite its complication.
Inside works the self-winding Vacheron Constantin caliber 2460 R31R7, which carries the Hallmark of Geneva, one of the strictest quality seals in watchmaking. Through the sapphire caseback you can admire its fine finishing and the gold rotor.
Its worn on its brown aligator leather strap with VC rose gold pin buckle.
The watch dates from 2014 and is in excellent condition. It comes with box and papers.
