UNIVERSAL GENÈVE Vintage Tri-Compax Moon-Phase Triple Calendar Ref. 12265 – 18k Yellow Gold – Original Dial – Circa 1950
An exceptional and highly collectible Universal Genève Tri-Compax Ref. 12265 in 18k yellow gold, featuring its original dial and preserved in excellent condition, circa 1950.
We are pleased to present this outstanding example of the legendary Universal Genève Tri-Compax, reference 12265 — one of the most important and celebrated complicated chronographs of the mid-20th century. Crafted in solid 18k yellow gold, this watch exemplifies the golden age of Swiss watchmaking and Universal Genève’s mastery of complex wristwatch design.
Produced circa 1950, the Tri-Compax was Universal Genève’s flagship model, combining a chronograph with a full triple calendar and moon-phase display. The beautifully balanced original dial displays the day and month in twin apertures beneath 12 o’clock, the date indicated by a peripheral scale, and an exquisitely rendered moon-phase at 6 o’clock. The multi-register layout remains remarkably legible despite its technical complexity, a hallmark of Universal Genève’s design excellence.
The original dial is particularly noteworthy, showing elegant aging consistent with its age while retaining strong definition, crisp printing, and outstanding character — a crucial factor for discerning collectors. The warm tone of the yellow gold case complements the dial perfectly, enhancing the watch’s timeless and refined presence.
The case retains excellent proportions, with well-defined lugs and a harmonious balance between elegance and sportiness. Fitted with its correct chronograph pushers and crown, the watch remains a superb example of a classic vintage complication in precious metal.
At its heart beats the legendary Universal Genève calibre 481, a hand-wound chronograph movement revered for its technical sophistication, reliability, and historical importance. This calibre is widely regarded as one of the finest complicated movements of its era.
"Combining mechanical complexity, historical significance, and enduring aesthetic appeal, this Universal Genève Tri-Compax Ref. 12265 stands as a true cornerstone of vintage horology. A rare opportunity to acquire an exceptional example of one of the most iconic complicated wristwatches ever produced, in excellent condition with its original dial."
