ULYSSE NARDIN El Toro GMT +/- Perpetual Calendar, Reference 320-00, 18k White Gold, Black Ceramic Bezel, Box and Papers, Year 2017, Excellent
Ulysse Nardin has built precision instruments since the 19th century, when the brand's marine chronometers were trusted aboard ships around the world, and the El Toro carries that same instrument-like practicality into a genuinely useful modern complication, a perpetual calendar paired with a proper dual time function.
The 43mm case is solid 18k white gold, topped with a fixed black ceramic bezel featuring white gold filled 24 hour markings, a material combination chosen as much for durability as for looks. The black dial, finished with a Côtes de Genève pattern, arranges its complications around oversized skeletonized hands with luminous tips, a big date window, day and month apertures near the center pinion, and a year indicator at six o’clock.
What sets the El Toro apart from most perpetual calendars is genuine usability. Every calendar function can be corrected both forward and backward at any time, a rare feature that spares owners the usual headache of a calendar watch left unworn for too long. The second time zone works the same way, adjustable in one hour increments through ceramic plus and minus buttons set into the case edge at four and eight o'clock, while a small seconds subdial sits at nine.
Inside runs the caliber UN-32, Ulysse Nardin's own automatic movement beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour across 34 jewels, delivering around 45 to 48 hours of power reserve and fully visible through the sapphire exhibition case back. The watch is worn on its black alligator strap with a matching deployant buckle.
This example is offered as:
- Excellent condition
- Full set with box and warranty card, chronometer attestation, etc
"A perpetual calendar built to actually be worn and adjusted, robust, practical, and genuinely different from the rest of the category. For anyone who wants complicated watchmaking that keeps up with a real life, the El Toro remains hard to beat."
