Rolex Yacht-Master Ref. 68623, Stainless Steel and 18k Yellow Gold, Midsize 35 mm, Blue Dial, 1998, Wempe Germany
When Rolex introduced the Yacht-Master in 1992, it created a new kind of sports watch: robust enough for the water, yet elegant enough for the evening on deck. Unusually,
Rolex offered it right from the start in three sizes. The 68623 is the midsize version with a 35 mm case, a size that has become very popular again today, because it wears beautifully on almost any wrist.
The Oyster case combines stainless steel with 18 karat yellow gold, which Rolex calls Rolesor. The bidirectional rotating bezel is made of solid yellow gold, with raised, polished numerals on a satin finished background. This bezel is the signature of the Yacht-Master and gives the watch a refined, nautical look. With the Triplock crown, the watch is water resistant to 100 meters.
The blue dial carries applied gold markers with luminous fill and the typical Yacht-Master hands. The Cyclops lens magnifies the date at 3 o’clock.
Inside works the Rolex caliber 2235, a self-winding chronometer movement with date. The two-tone Oyster bracelet with its gold center links matches the bezel perfectly.
The watch dates from 1998 and was originally sold by Wempe in Germany. The LC100 code confirms that it was delivered for the German market. It is in excellent condition and comes with box and papers.
"An early Yacht-Master in the size many more collectors now prefer, and a watch that is as comfortable on a boat as it is in the city!"
