ROLEX SUBMARINER DATE – REF. 16808 - 18K YELLOW GOLD – TROPICAL TRITIUM “NIPPLE” DIAL
We are delighted to offer an outstanding and charismatic example of the iconic Rolex Submariner Date, reference 16808, handsomely executed in solid 18k yellow gold.
Dating from the early 1980s, this distinguished reference marked a pivotal evolution in the Submariner lineage, being the first of its kind to feature a sapphire crystal, directly succeeding the legendary Ref. 1680.
The present example of a gold Sub is elevated by a wonderfully aged original blue tritium “nipple” dial, now matured into a rare and highly desirable tropical gradient, a result of years of natural exposure. Complementing this mesmerizing dial is a faded light blue bezel insert, once dark, now transformed with time into a soft, ethereal hue—together offering a patina that is both authentic and visually arresting.
The watch is paired with a tasteful grey leather strap, secured by a matching gold-plated Rolex pin buckle, enhancing its refined yet confident presence on the wrist.
