Our remarks

Rolex Vintage Pre-Daytona Chronograph Ref. 6238 – 14k Yellow Gold – Oyster Bracelet – Tritium Dial – 1967 – Excellent Condition

We are delighted to present this magnificent Rolex Chronograph Ref. 6238, often referred to as the “Pre-Daytona”, crafted in solid 14k yellow gold and accompanied by its original Oyster bracelet. Produced in 1967, this reference represents the final evolution of Rolex’s manually-wound chronographs before the introduction of the iconic Daytona series.

The 36mm Oyster case is preserved in excellent condition, exhibiting sharp edges, well-defined lugs, and its original pump pushers and signed crown. The matching 14k yellow gold bracelet, with correct end-links and clasp, enhances the watch’s cohesive vintage charm and rarity.

The original silver tritium dial is beautifully aged, showcasing applied gold hour markers, recessed sub-dials, and elegant dauphine hands — all with a warm patina consistent with its age. The absence of the “Daytona” text lends the dial a clean, balanced aesthetic that epitomizes 1960s Rolex design purity.

Inside beats the legendary Valjoux 72 hand-wound movement, renowned for its reliability and precision, and later used in the earliest Daytona models. This movement remains in excellent working condition, having been recently serviced by our watch lab.

Produced in relatively small numbers compared to later Daytona models, the 6238 in 14k gold is a particularly scarce and collectible configuration — a bridge between the early Rolex chronographs and the Daytona legacy that would follow.

A superb opportunity to acquire one of the most elegant and historically significant vintage Rolex chronographs, offered in excellent overall condition.
