Presenting a beautifully preserved example of the iconic Rolex GMT-Master reference 16700, a model cherished for its classic aesthetics, robust build, and the unmistakable red-blue “Pepsi” bezel. This vintage model from 1991 features a perfect tritium dial and tritium hands, which are sought after by collectors worldwide.
The ref. 16700 was the last traditional GMT-Master before Rolex transitioned fully into the GMT-Master II line, making it a significant and collectible reference. With its clean, balanced design and reliable Caliber 3175, it represents the final chapter of a legendary series while maintaining the charm and simplicity of the original model.
This example is presented in excellent overall condition, with crisp case lines, a beautifully vibrant Pepsi bezel insert, and a dial that has aged elegantly. Whether for daily wear or as a highlight in a curated collection, this watch stands as a timeless embodiment of Rolex’s tool-watch heritage.
The Rolex GMT-Master was introduced in 1955, born from a collaboration with Pan American World Airways (Pan Am). As intercontinental air travel expanded, pilots needed a reliable way to read two time zones simultaneously. Rolex engineered a solution: a 24-hour hand paired with a rotatable bezel, allowing quick tracking of home and local time.
The striking red-blue bezel was not just a design choice—it served a functional purpose, visually separating daytime (red) and nighttime (blue) hours. Over the decades, the GMT-Master evolved from a pilot’s instrument into one of Rolex’s most iconic sports watches, admired for its versatility, durability, and unmistakable look.
The GMT-Master 16700, introduced in the late 1980s and discontinued around 1999, marks a special era—offering traditional GMT functionality in a modern yet still vintage-feeling package.
