ROLEX DAYTONA COSMOGRAPH “BIG RED” – Ref. 6265 – Stainless Steel – 37mm – Manual Wind – Valjoux 727 Movement – Black Tritium Dial – Box – 1987 – Excellent Condition
We are proud to offer this very good and authentic example of the legendary Rolex Cosmograph Daytona, reference 6265, in stainless steel with its steel Oyster bracelet.
This piece is featuring the iconic “Big Red” black tritium dial and presented with its original box, dating from 1987—one of the very last years of production for the manual-wind Daytonas.
The reference 6265, introduced in the early 1970s and produced until 1988, represents the final evolution of the manually wound Daytona series. It features screw-down pushers, an engraved metal tachymeter bezel, and the robust Oyster case that defined the Daytona’s transition from a pure racing chronograph to an enduring luxury icon.
This example showcases the highly coveted “Big Red” dial configuration—named for the bold red “DAYTONA” script arched above the sub-dial at 6 o’clock. The black matte tritium dial with contrasting silver registers offers exceptional legibility and timeless style, while the luminous plots (all there!) have developed a warm creamy patina.
Housed in a 37mm stainless steel Oyster case with screw-down crown and pushers, the watch embodies the perfect balance of utility and refinement. The bezel, engraved with a tachymeter scale up to 200 units per hour, remains crisp and well-preserved.
Inside beats the hand-wound Rolex Caliber 727—a chronometer-grade evolution of the Valjoux 72—renowned for its reliability, precision, and historical significance. This movement powered all of Rolex’s manual Daytona references before the advent of the automatic “Zenith” era.
This exceptional set includes:
- Original Rolex presentation box
- Black Tritium “Big Red” Dial
- Stainless Steel Oyster Case and Bracelet - (L7)
"A true vintage icon—the Rolex Daytona Ref. 6265 “Big Red” represents the pinnacle of the manual-wind Daytona lineage, cherished by collectors for its bold aesthetic, mechanical purity, and timeless appeal!“
