ROLEX DAYTONA COSMOGRAPH – Ref. 6239 – Vintage Stainless Steel Chronograph with Blue “DAYTONA” Dial – Dated 1966 – Valjoux 72 Movement – Rare Collector’s Example
We are pleased to offer this excellent vintage Rolex Cosmograph Daytona, Ref. 6239, in stainless steel, paired with its original folded rivet Oyster bracelet, and dated April 1966.
Produced during the earliest era of Daytona production, this reference carries a 1.4 million serial number, consistent with its 1966 manufacture, and represents the very foundation of one of Rolex’s most celebrated and collectible models.
Rare Dial Variant with Blue “DAYTONA”.
The watch features an original black Tritium dial, highlighted by the ultra-rare “DAYTONA” designation in blue — positioned just above the 6 o’clock subdial. This subtle yet striking detail is found only on a limited number of examples and is considered a true grail by collectors.
The luminous Tritium hour plots have aged naturally, with some fading visible, yet still emit a soft glow under UV light — a reassuring sign of their originality and untouched condition.
At the heart of this timepiece beats the legendary Valjoux 72 manual-winding chronograph movement, meticulously finished by Rolex. This caliber is celebrated for its mechanical purity, reliability, and central role in the history of vintage chronographs — especially within the Daytona lineage.
An Icon of 1960s Motorsport Style
Few watches capture the spirit of 1960s motorsport quite like the Daytona 6239. Its bold aesthetics, professional pedigree, and historical significance have earned it an enduring place in the pantheon of collectible watches. This example stands as both a coveted collector’s piece and a distinctive statement on the wrist.
„Excellent price/quality ratio and therefore quite a perfect collectors Daytona“.
