- ROLEX GMT-Master "Pepsi", Reference 16700, "Swiss Only" Tritium Dial, Box and Papers, Year 1999, EU Papers, NOS, Safe Queen, Unworn, Some Stickers
Every reference has a final chapter, and for the original GMT-Master, the 16700 was it. Produced from 1988 until 1999, it was the last watch to carry the GMT-Master name before Rolex handed the collection over entirely to the GMT-Master II, making this specific piece one of the very last examples of a lineage that started back in the 1950s.
The 40mm steel case was the first GMT-Master fitted with a sapphire crystal, a genuine upgrade over the acrylic used on earlier references, paired here with the red and blue Pepsi bezel that has defined the model since its earliest days. Being a straight GMT-Master rather than the later GMT-Master II, the 24 hour hand remains linked directly to the hour hand rather than adjusting independently, the one functional difference that still divides purists and practical owners to this day.
The dial carries the "Swiss Only" signature just above six o'clock, a marking used only briefly at the very end of the reference's production run as Rolex transitioned away from tritium lume. Genuine tritium dials from this exact window are scarcer than the standard tritium dials from earlier years, since Rolex was already phasing the material out industry wide by the time this watch was built.
Inside runs the caliber 3175, the automatic movement that succeeded the 3075 while keeping the same reliable GMT function Rolex has relied on for decades.
This example is a genuine safe queen, new old stock and unworn since it left the boutique, complete with box and EU papers.
- NOS, unworn, safe queen
- Full set with box and EU papers, describtion booklets
"The last of the original GMT-Masters, still exactly as new over two decades on, a genuinely closing chapter frozen in time."
