ROLEX EXPLORER II - Reference 16570 - Box & Papers 2004 - Rolex Service 2026 - Nearly Mint

The Rolex Explorer II Ref. 16570 is one of the most respected and versatile sports watches in Rolex's history, bridging the gap between vintage charm and modern practicality. Produced from 1989 until 2011, the reference 16570 represents the final generation of the classic 40 mm Explorer II before the introduction of the larger 42 mm successor, making it highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts alike.

The Explorer II was originally introduced by Rolex in 1971 as a purpose-built tool watch for speleologists, mountaineers, and explorers operating in environments where distinguishing day from night could be challenging. Featuring a fixed 24-hour bezel and an additional 24-hour hand, the model allowed its wearer to differentiate between AM and PM at a glance. 

This example, the Ref. 16570, features the desirable black dial, offering excellent contrast with luminous hour markers and Mercedes hands, complemented by the distinctive red 24-hour hand and engraved stainless steel 24-hour bezel. Housed in the classic 40 mm Oyster case crafted from stainless steel, the watch combines robustness with exceptional everyday wearability.

Powering the watch is the reliable Rolex Calibre 3185 automatic movement, featuring a quick-set independently adjustable local hour hand and a 24-hour indication, making it an ideal companion for travellers as well as adventurers. Renowned for its precision and durability, the movement exemplifies Rolex's reputation for producing dependable professional timepieces.

Originally sold in 2004, this Explorer II is offered as a complete set with its original Rolex box and papers. The watch has recently undergone a comprehensive Rolex service in 2026, ensuring excellent mechanical performance and immediate readiness for its next owner.

Presented in nearly mint condition, the case retains crisp proportions, while the black dial, hands, crystal, and Oyster bracelet remain exceptionally well preserved.
