Rolex Cosmograph Daytona Ref. 116505, 18k Everose Gold, Black Dial, 2020, Full Set

The Daytona is the chronograph everyone knows, and in steel it is one of the hardest Rolex watches to get. In Everose gold it becomes something else entirely. It is warmer, more luxurious and a little more relaxed. The 116505 with black dial is one of the most balanced versions of the modern Daytona, because the dark dial keeps the rose gold from looking too sweet.

The 40 mm Oyster case is made of Everose, the 18 karat rose gold alloy Rolex casts in its own foundry. The alloy contains a small amount of platinum, which helps the color stay stable over the years. The bezel is also made of gold, with the engraved tachymeter scale that has defined the Daytona since the 1960s. The screw-down pushers and the Triplock crown make the case water resistant to 100 meters.

On the black dial sit applied hour markers in Everose gold, which pick up the tone of the case. The three counters for running seconds, minutes and hours are clearly laid out. In daylight the gold hands and markers stand out beautifully against the black, which makes this dial very easy to read and very easy to like.

Inside works the caliber 4130, the chronograph movement Rolex developed entirely in house. It uses fewer parts than a conventional chronograph, has a vertical clutch and a column wheel, and offers around 72 hours of power reserve. For many collectors it is still one of the best modern chronograph movements.

The solid Everose Oyster bracelet closes with the Oysterlock safety clasp and the Easylink extension, which gives you about 5 mm of extra length when the day gets warm.

This watch is from 2020 and in like-new condition.
