ROLEX DAYTONA COSMOGRAPH “PATRIZZI DIAL” – Ref. 16520 – Stainless Steel – 40mm – Automatic – Zenith El Primero Movement – Box & Papers – 1995 – Excellent Condition

We are proud to offer this highly collectible Rolex Cosmograph Daytona, reference 16520, featuring the legendary “Patrizzi” dial, crafted in stainless steel, and accompanied by its original box and papers, dating from 1995.

The reference 16520 marked a milestone in Rolex’s history, being the first automatic Daytona powered by the Zenith El Primero–based Caliber 4030, introduced in 1988. Produced until 2000, these early automatic Daytonas have become icons of modern collecting—especially the rare transitional “Patrizzi” variants.

The “Patrizzi Dial,” named after renowned Italian collector Osvaldo Patrizzi, is distinguished by the natural oxidation of the silver subdial rings, which develop a warm chocolate-brown patina over time. This unique aging process is exclusive to specific production years (circa 1994–1996) and has made these dials highly sought-after by collectors for their individuality and character.

The 40mm stainless steel case remains one of the most balanced and recognizable designs in the history of chronographs—sporty yet refined. It features the black dial with luminous hour markers, silver-ringed subdials now beautifully patinated, and the engraved tachymeter bezel up to 400 units per hour.

Inside beats the Rolex Caliber 4030, a heavily modified version of the Zenith El Primero high-beat chronograph movement, reworked by Rolex for robustness, precision, and reliability. This movement marked the first step toward Rolex’s eventual in-house chronograph caliber.

Condition: Excellent throughout, with a strong and unpolished case, clean bezel, and beautifully aged “Patrizzi” subdials showing even, natural oxidation.
