This Ressence Type 2A is a revolutionary piece of horological engineering that fundamentally redefines the relationship between traditional mechanical watchmaking and modern convenience. Unlike a smartwatch, which relies on a digital processor to keep time, the Type 2A remains a fully mechanical, automatic timepiece at its core. Its genius lies in the "e-Crown“ - an electro-mechanical system that integrates seamlessly into the watch to automate the functions typically handled by a physical crown, such as setting the time and managing power.

The e-Crown is controlled through a highly intuitive, tactile interface: by simply tapping the watch’s sapphire crystal, the wearer can cycle through different modes, including two time zones and an "off" setting, all of which are indicated on a dedicated sub-disc on the dial. The system is remarkably self-sufficient, drawing energy from photovoltaic cells hidden behind micro-apertures on the dial, complemented by kinetic energy from the movement. When the watch is not in use, the e-Crown intelligently puts the movement into a sleep mode to preserve its power reserve; when picked up and tapped, it automatically recalibrates the mechanical discs to the correct time, ensuring it is ready for immediate wear even after weeks of inactivity.

Beyond this electronic assistance, the Type 2A utilizes the brand's proprietary ROCS (Ressence Orbital Convex System).
