Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Moon Phase – Ref. 3448 – 18k Yellow Gold – Unpolished – Original Box & Extract of the Archives – Iconic First Self-Winding Perpetual Calendar – Bj 1976
We are proud to present this exceptional and historically important Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Moon Phase Reference 3448, manufactured in 1976 and sold in 1980. Offered with its original Patek Philippe presentation box and an Extract of the Archives, this timepiece represents one of the most significant milestones in the history of complicated wristwatches.
Introduced in 1962, the Reference 3448 holds a distinguished place in horology as the world’s first serially produced self-winding perpetual calendar wristwatch. Its bold yet elegant architecture marked a departure from earlier designs, establishing a modern aesthetic language that continues to influence perpetual calendar models to this day.
The 37.5 mm 18k yellow gold case is remarkably well preserved and remains unpolished - an increasingly rare and highly desirable attribute among discerning collectors. The strong lines, sharp edges, and beautifully defined lugs showcase the reference’s distinctive, slightly angular case design, combining presence with timeless refinement. The proportions remain thoroughly contemporary, underscoring the enduring vision of Patek Philippe’s mid-century innovation.
The silver dial exemplifies clarity, balance, and restraint. The calendar indications - day and month apertures at 12 o’clock, the date surrounding the integrated moon phase at 6 o’clock - are arranged in harmonious symmetry. Applied gold hour markers and elegant dauphine hands enhance legibility while maintaining a refined, understated aesthetic.
Powering the watch is the celebrated automatic caliber 27-460 Q, based on the legendary 27-460 movement and enhanced with a perpetual calendar module. Beautifully finished to the highest standards of traditional Genevan watchmaking, the movement reflects Patek Philippe’s uncompromising commitment to precision, durability, and artisanal excellence, enhanced by the Geneva Seal on the work.
The watch is fitted with a black crocodile leather strap and an original 18k Patek Philippe pin buckle, completing its classic and distinguished appearance.
