PATEK PHILIPPE Golden Ellipse Date "Jumbo", Reference 3605-1, 18k Yellow Gold, Milanese Bracelet, Box, Extract, Year 1978, Very Good, Blue Sigma Dial
Introduced in 1968, the Golden Ellipse broke from centuries of round and rectangular convention, drawing its shape directly from the golden ratio, and the oversized 3605 "Jumbo" remains the most celebrated execution of that idea.
The 18k yellow gold case measures 38 x 33mm and just 6.5mm thick, worn on its Milanese bracelet, with the smooth, lug-free silhouette that lets the case flow directly into the strap without interruption.
The dial is a deep cobalt blue sunburst, applied with pointed 18k gold indices and a discreet date window at three o'clock, with the small "σ" sigma mark at six confirming genuine gold hardware on the dial, a detail specific to select Swiss manufactures of this era. Also this is one of the very rare pieces with actually a date window at 3 oclock.
Inside runs the automatic caliber 28-255C, a 36 jewel movement carrying the Geneva Seal, with the "C" specifically denoting the calendar function fitted to this reference.
This example is offered in:
- Very good condition
- Original long black PP box and archive extract - 1978.
- Rare and very collectable piece
- Bracelet and case length is 18,7cm - with another 1cm to extend through the buckle setting.
"The Ellipse that defined its own shape language, still wearing its cobalt blue dial and golden ratio silhouette exactly as intended."
