Patek Philippe Nautilus Ref. 5711/1A-001 “Mark 1”, Stainless Steel, Blue Dial, Caliber 315 SC, 2007, Wempe, Full Set

When Patek Philippe presented the 5711 in 2006, nobody could have imagined what would follow. It was created for the 30th anniversary of the Nautilus, as the successor to the 3800, and it brought Gérald Genta’s design back to a size close to the larger original 3700 from 1976. Within a few years it became the most sought-after steel watch in the world, and when Patek discontinued it in 2021, it was already a legend. This example belongs to the very first generation, the version collectors call the “Mark 1”.

The 40 mm case is made of stainless steel and carries all the classic Nautilus details: the rounded octagonal bezel inspired by the portholes of ocean liners, the characteristic “ears” on the sides and the integrated steel bracelet with its alternating satin and polished links. It closes with a Nautilus folding clasp. The watch is slim and wears beautifully on the wrist.

The blue dial carries the name on the horizontal embossed pattern every Nautilus fan knows, with a gradient that darkens toward the edge. The applied white gold markers and hands are filled with luminous material, and the date sits at 3 o’clock. It is the dial that made the 5711 an icon.

Inside works the self-winding Patek Philippe caliber 315 SC, and this is what makes the Mark 1 so interesting for collectors. Patek used this movement only in the first years of the 5711 before switching to the caliber 324 SC and at the end of production the 330 SC. Early examples with the 315 SC and the original first-generation dial are therefore the purest form of the reference, and they are increasingly sought after. Through the sapphire caseback you can admire the movement and its 21 karat gold rotor.

The watch dates from 2007 and was originally sold by Wempe. It is in excellent condition and comes as a full set with box and papers, invoice, hang tag, brown cleaning cloth, lerather card holder, describtion booklet.
