Patek Philippe Nautilus Flyback Chronograph Ref. 5980/60G-001, 18k White Gold, 2024, Full Set 

For many years the 5980 was one of the most sought after chronographs Patek Philippe made. When the steel version left the collection, the question was what would come next. In 2024 Patek gave its answer, and it is a surprisingly relaxed one. White gold, a blue-gray dial and a strap that looks like your favorite pair of jeans.

The case measures 40.5 mm and is made of 18 karat white gold. It follows the classic Nautilus shape that Gérald Genta drew in 1976, with the octagonal bezel and the characteristic "ears" on the sides. On the wrist it wears comfortably and feels lighter than you might expect from a gold chronograph.

The opaline dial carries the horizontal embossing every Nautilus fan knows. Its shade sits somewhere between blue and gray and changes nicely with the light. The applied white gold baton markers and hands are coated with luminous material. All chronograph functions are gathered in one large counter at 6 o'clock, with the minute and hour scales arranged in circles. This makes the watch very easy to read.

Inside is the in-house caliber CH 28-520 C, a self-winding flyback chronograph with column wheel and vertical clutch. The flyback lets you reset and restart the chronograph with a single push. Through the sapphire caseback you can see the finely finished movement and the 21k gold rotor.

The strap is hand-stitched calfskin with a denim pattern and white stitching, closed with a white gold Nautilus folding clasp. It is the detail that gives this watch its character, and it is exactly why people talk about the "Denim“ Nautilus.

The watch dates from 2024 and is in very good condition.
