Patek Philippe Nautilus Flyback Chronograph Ref. 5980/1A-001, Stainless Steel, Blue Dial, 2011, Wempe Germany, Patek Philippe Service October 2026

The 5980 holds a special place in Patek Philippe’s modern history. When it appeared in 2006 for the 30th anniversary of the Nautilus, it was the first Patek chronograph with a movement developed entirely in house. It combined that new movement with Gérald Genta’s iconic design, and in steel with a blue dial, it quickly became one of the most sought-after watches in the world. Today it is regarded as one of the defining sports chronographs of its generation.

The 40.5 mm case is made of stainless steel and carries all the classic Nautilus details: the rounded octagonal bezel, the characteristic “ears” on the sides and the integrated steel bracelet with its alternating satin and polished links. It closes with a Nautilus double-folding clasp. Despite the chronograph, the watch stays slim and comfortable on the wrist.

The blue dial carries the horizontal embossed pattern that every Nautilus fan knows, with a gradient that darkens toward the edge. All chronograph functions are combined in a single large counter at 6 o’clock, which shows the elapsed minutes and hours on two concentric scales. This clever layout keeps the dial calm and remarkably easy to read. The applied white gold markers and hands are filled with luminous material, and the date sits at 3 o’clock.

Inside works the self-winding Patek Philippe caliber CH 28-520 C, a flyback chronograph with column wheel and vertical clutch. The flyback function lets you reset and restart the chronograph with a single push. Through the sapphire caseback you can admire the finely finished movement and the 21 karat gold rotor.

The watch dates from 2011 and was originally sold by Wempe in Germany. It is in like-new condition and was serviced by Patek Philippe in October 2026. It comes as a full set with box, papers and the service papers - 24 moth of warranty until oct. 2028!
