Produced in 2013 and presented with its full complement of box and papers, this reference remains one of the most desirable modern Nautilus models.

Originally introduced in 2006 to mark the 30th anniversary of the Nautilus collection, the 5980/1A blends Gérald Genta’s legendary design language with Patek Philippe’s in-house chronograph expertise. The monobloc, horizontally-embossed blue dial shifts from deep navy to radiant cobalt under changing light, offering exceptional depth and visual dynamism. The instantly recognizable porthole-inspired case, measuring 40.5 mm, is rendered in satin-brushed stainless steel with polished bevels, giving the watch a balanced presence of sportiness and refined luxury.

The dial layout is wonderfully efficient, featuring a single combined 60-minute and 12-hour chronograph register at 6 o’clock—an elegant solution that preserves the Nautilus’s essential symmetry and clarity. Bold applied white-gold hour markers with luminous fill and matching baton hands ensure excellent legibility, while the discreet date at 3 o’clock maintains the overall harmony of the design.

Both the case and the integrated stainless-steel bracelet remain in excellent condition, exhibiting crisp edges, consistent brushing, and the alternating polished surfaces that define the Nautilus aesthetic. The bracelet, fitted with the double-folding Patek Philippe clasp, offers secure and comfortable wear, aligning perfectly with the sporty-yet-elevated character of the reference.

Powering the 5980/1A-001 is Patek Philippe’s automatic Caliber CH 28-520 C, a robust and sophisticated flyback chronograph movement featuring a column wheel, vertical clutch, and a 21k gold rotor.
