A. Lange & Söhne Saxonia Ref. 105.027, 18k White Gold, Blue Dial, 1998, Rare Find
In 1994 A. Lange & Söhne returned to Glashütte with its first new collection after more than forty years. Alongside the famous Lange 1, there was the Saxonia, the simplest and perhaps the purest watch of the line. It shows the hours, minutes and small seconds, nothing more, and that is exactly its strength. Everything Lange stands for can be seen in this watch without any distraction.
The round case is made of 18 karat white gold and has the classic, understated proportions of the early Saxonia. It fits easily under a shirt cuff and wears beautifully on the wrist. Through the sapphire caseback you can admire the movement.
The blue dial is what makes this Saxonia special. Most early Saxonias were made with silver or champagne dials, so a blue dial in white gold is a rare find. The applied white gold baton markers and slim hands stand out clearly against the blue, and the small seconds at 6 o’clock completes the calm, balanced layout. The cool white gold and the deep blue make a very elegant combination.
Inside works the manually wound Lange caliber L941.3. Like every Lange movement it is finished by hand, with a three-quarter plate in German silver, a balance cock engraved by hand and blued screws. The movement is assembled twice: once to test it, then taken apart, cleaned and assembled again. Winding it by hand every morning is a small, enjoyable ritual.
The Saxonia is worn on a blue aligator strap and white gold pin buckle. The watch dates from 1998 and is in excellent condition. It comes with its box.
"An early Saxonia with a rare blue dial, and Lange watchmaking in its clearest form - This is what conaisseurs are looking for"
