A. LANGE & SÖHNE Langematik Perpetual Calendar Moon, Reference 310.026E, 18k White Gold, Turing Box and Papers, Year 2016, Lange Service 2026, Excellent, Full Set
The Langematik Perpetual holds a special place in Lange's modern history, since it was the manufacture's very first mechanical wristwatch to combine a perpetual calendar with Lange's own outsize date, a genuine first when it debuted in 2001 and still one of the most legible perpetual calendars on the market today.
The case is 18k white gold, a compact 38.5mm at just 10.2mm thick, with a three piece construction, screwed lugs and an alternating brushed and polished finish that keeps the watch reading as unmistakably Lange rather than following any other manufacture's dress watch language. A sapphire display back shows off the movement inside without needing to say another word about it.
The black solid black dial arranges its perpetual calendar with real clarity, the outsize date sitting at twelve o'clock, day of week and day or night indicator at nine, month and leap year at three, and moon phase paired with subsidiary seconds at six. Applied Roman numerals and polished white gold hands keep everything legible at a glance despite the amount of information on display.
Behind the sapphire back sits the caliber L922.1, Lange's own SAX-0-MAT movement built from 478 parts, finished with a three-quarter German silver plate, a hand engraved balance cock and a 21 carat gold rotor with platinum centrifugal mass. The movement's patented zero reset mechanism stops the seconds hand the moment the crown is pulled, letting the watch be set to the second, a small but genuinely useful piece of Lange engineering. Power reserve sits at around 46 hours, with the moon phase display accurate to within a single day roughly every 122 years.
