IWC Big Pilot's Watch "Racing Works", Reference IW501019, Titanium, Blue Dial, Folding Clasp, Box and Papers, Year 2023, Like New

The Big Pilot has always been the watch IWC built to be seen from across a cockpit, and this Racing Works edition takes that presence and lightens it, literally. The case is grade 5 titanium rather than the usual steel, a material IWC has worked with since the 1980s when it produced some of the first titanium wristwatches in the industry.

At 46.2mm across and 15.4mm thick, it keeps every bit of the Big Pilot's imposing character, but the titanium construction makes it noticeably easier to live with on the wrist than the weight would suggest. The screw in crown and titanium case back carry through the same material, while a soft iron inner case still shields the movement from magnetic fields, exactly as on the standard Big Pilot.

The dial is where this edition sets itself apart, a sunray brushed blue with grey toned numerals, markers and hands, paired with the Big Pilot's signature power reserve display at three o'clock and a date window. It sits on a blue calf leather strap with an embossed texture and closes with a titanium folding clasp, keeping the whole watch light from the case right down to the wrist.

Inside runs IWC's own caliber 52110, an automatic movement built around the brand's bi-directional Pellaton winding system, with twin barrels delivering a full seven days of power reserve. It is exactly the kind of in-house engineering that has defined IWC's pilot watches for decades.

This edition was created to mark IWC's long running connection to motorsport, from its partnership with Mercedes-AMG and the Petronas F1 team to IWC's own classic racing team, and it was limited to just 500 pieces worldwide.
