Cartier Tank Basculante – Ref. 2386 – Stainless Steel – Cartier Service 01/2026 – Grey Lizard Strap

An elegant and historically fascinating Cartier Tank Basculante Ref. 2386 in stainless steel, circa 2006, freshly serviced by Cartier in January 2026.

We are pleased to present this distinctive interpretation of the legendary Tank, a model that reflects Cartier’s creative ingenuity during the early 20th century. The Tank Basculante was first introduced in 1933, at a time when reversible watch cases were gaining popularity. While often compared to other reversible designs of the era, the Basculante distinguishes itself through its unique pivoting mechanism: rather than sliding within a carriage, the rectangular case flips along a horizontal axis within its frame.

This ingenious construction not only serves to protect the dial but also allows the watch—at least in theory—to be positioned upright on a flat surface and used as a small desk clock. It is this playful blend of practicality and elegance that makes the Basculante one of the most charming and unconventional members of the Tank family.

This Ref. 2386 embodies the purity of Cartier’s design language. The stainless steel case highlights the clean geometry and elongated brancards characteristic of the Tank line, offering a refined yet understated presence on the wrist. The timeless dial design, with its harmonious proportions and classic detailing, underscores the model’s Art Deco heritage.

The watch is fitted with a sophisticated grey lizard strap, paired with a stainless steel folding clasp, creating a modern and elegant aesthetic that complements the case beautifully.

Importantly, this example received a full service at Cartier in January 2026 and is accompanied by the official Cartier repair report as well as a Cartier service pouch, documenting and underscoring the recent maintenance.
