Presented in 2023 as the second watch to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the FIFTY FATHOMS, this ACT 2 TECH GOMBESSA is a real tool watch and was intended for professional divers that use a rebreather and can achive dive times up to three hours.
Other than normal dive watches the TECH GOMBESSA has a individual, GMT like, diver hand that circles the dial once every three hours. To read the watch under water correctly, the luminous mass of the normal time is filled in orange and glows light blue, while the dive time is made in white and glows green.
BLANCPAIN updated their inhouse-movement 1315 to the new 13P8 that features a power reserve of a stuning 120 hours and a stop second. The movement can be seen through the exhibition caseback and has a 18K gold rotor, signed “Gombessa Expeditions”, a diving expedition under the leadership of Laurent Ballesta that is supported from BLANCPAIN since 2012.
Beside Marc A. Hayek also Laurent Ballesta was part of the development team bringing their expertise as divers of closed rebreather diving equipment to create the ultimate diver watch which took them 5 years.
The 47mm case is made of Titanium Grade 23, also called Grade 5 ELI (extra low interstitials) to guarantee extraordinary stiffness with light weight, non-allergic properties at to be waterproof up to 300 meters.
To compensate the size, the watch has no lugs, meaning the strap merges directly into the case and makes it look a bit smaller on the wrist.
The TECH GOMBESSA is not a watch you will see every day and we cant imagine that this will be produced in large numbers even if it is no limited edition.
