Our remarks

BLANCPAIN Vintage Fifty Fathoms “LIP” – Stainless Steel – Tritium Dial – Automatic – Circa 1959 – Ultra Rare – Excellent Condition

We are honored to present this exceptionally rare and iconic and significant Blancpain Fifty Fathoms “LIP” in  stainless steel with black ruled tropic bracelet and steel buckle.

This beautiful Fifty Fathoms was produced in around 1959, a true milestone in the evolution of professional dive watches. Developed during the pioneering era of underwater exploration, this reference stands among the earliest and most collectible examples of the Fifty Fathoms line.

Crafted in stainless steel, the case retains its robust, purposeful design, measuring approximately 41mm in diameter—an impressive size for its time. The bi-directional Bakelite bezel, with its luminous markings, remains a defining feature, combining function with timeless aesthetic appeal.

The matte black tritium dial, co-signed “Blancpain” and “LIP”, reflects the partnership between Blancpain and the French retailer LIP for distribution within the French market.  In addition the dial has an encircled Incaloc Automatic writing. The dial exhibits beautifully aged tritium hour markers and hands, now displaying a warm vintage patina that enhances the watch’s authenticity and character.

Inside beats the automatic Caliber AS 1361N, a robust and reliable movement that was among the earliest automatic calibers engineered specifically for diving applications. The caseback bears the correct period engravings, and the watch remains in excellent vintage condition, showing honest wear consistent with its age yet preserving remarkable integrity.

This ultra-rare “LIP” edition represents one of the most collectible variants of the Fifty Fathoms family—coveted by connoisseurs for its historical importance, limited production, and direct ties to the origins of modern dive watch design.

"A grail-level timepiece, the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms “LIP” circa 1959 is a cornerstone in the history of dive watches!“.

Comes with a one year warranty through our watch lab.
