ROLEX GMT-Master "Blueberry", Reference 1675, Stainless Steel, Radial Dial, Red GMT Hand, Year 1978, Rare
Not every legendary Rolex nickname comes from a factory catalogue entry, and the Blueberry is the perfect example. Rather than an official configuration Rolex ever advertised, the all-blue bezel insert is generally believed to have originated through Rolex service channels during the watch's own working life, making surviving examples like this one a genuinely unplanned rarity rather than a factory special order.
The 40mm steel case follows the long running 1675, the reference that carried the GMT-Master from the 1960s all the way through 1980 and saw more dial and bezel variations than any other GMT reference before or since. In place of the familiar red and blue Pepsi insert, this example wears the deep, saturated all-blue bezel that gives the Blueberry its name, a color no other Rolex GMT configuration has ever matched.
The dial carries a radial layout, one of the rarer matte dial variants produced for the 1675, and the rare all red GMT hand still stands out sharply against the aged tritium markers and hands, which have taken on the warm beige-brown patina collectors specifically look for on a piece this age, honest evidence of decades spent on the wrist rather than in a drawer. As with all straight 1675 GMT-Masters, the hand order runs GMT, hour, minute and seconds, distinguishing it from the later 16750 at a glance.
This example is offered as:
- Very good vintage condition
- Blueberry blue bezel inlay
- Red GMT Hand
- Collectors item
"The Blueberry that was never supposed to exist on paper, still carrying its unofficial blue bezel and honest tritium patina decades on."
