Rolex Cosmograph Daytona Ref. 6265, Stainless Steel, Silver Tritium Dial, Red “Daytona”, 1986
The manual Daytonas are the watches that started the Daytona legend, and the reference 6265 is one of the last of them. It was built alongside the 6263 until the late 1980s, when Rolex moved to automatic movements. The difference between the two lies in the bezel: while the 6263 has a black acrylic insert, the 6265 carries a solid steel bezel with an engraved tachymeter scale. It gives the watch a sleek, monochrome look that many collectors prefer, and it is far more resistant to everyday wear.
The 37 mm Oyster case is made of stainless steel and has the compact, elegant proportions that make the vintage Daytona so comfortable on the wrist. The screw-down pushers and the screw-down crown made it a true Oyster chronograph, water resistant and built for daily use. The engraved steel bezel blends seamlessly into the case.
The silver dial with black subdials creates the classic Daytona contrast. Above the counter at 6 o’clock, the word “Daytona” is printed in red, a small but iconic detail collectors look for. The tritium markers and hands have aged harmoniously and match the watch’s 1986 production year. However the lume of the hands is later!
Inside works the manually wound Rolex caliber 727, based on the famous Valjoux 72. Rolex refined it to its own standards, and it is regarded as one of the finest chronograph movements of its era. Winding it by hand is part of the experience of owning a vintage Daytona.
The watch sits on a steel Oyster bracelet from 1986 - K10.
The Daytona also dates from 1986, one of the final years of the manual Daytona, and is in very good condition. It comes with its original box.
"A late manual Daytona with steel bezel and red Daytona script, and one of the last of its kind!"
