ROLEX Vintage Daytona Cosmograph Reference 6262 “Paul Newman Panda” – Stainless Steel – Tritium Dial – Circa 1970 – Ultra Rare – Outstanding Condition
We are delighted to present this exceptional and highly coveted Rolex Cosmograph Daytona reference 6262, featuring the legendary “Paul Newman Panda” dial and fitted with its stainless steel Oyster bracelet (4/70 – 571). A true icon of vintage watchmaking, this masterpiece represents one of the most revered designs in the history of the Daytona line.
Produced for only a brief period between 1970 and 1971, the reference 6262 is among the rarest hand-wound Daytonas ever made. This example, dating to 1970 with a serial in the 262**** range, stands as an outstanding representation of this short-lived but historically significant reference.
Accompanying the watch are its Rolex over-box and card box, along with a black Bakelite bezel, offering the option to alternate between its original steel tachymeter bezel and the Bakelite insert reminiscent of its sister reference.
The watch features an extraordinary Tritium “Paul Newman Panda” dial, manufactured by Singer and showcasing the distinctive Art Deco–inspired sub-dial typography that has come to define this legendary configuration. The dial is remarkably well-preserved, with all Tritium plots intact—an increasingly rare sight and a testament to the watch’s careful custodianship. The contrast between the crisp white dial surface and the deep black registers creates a presence that is both unmistakable and timeless.
At the heart of this reference is the celebrated Valjoux 727 caliber—the first upgraded, high-beat chronograph movement to appear in the Daytona series. Housed within its robust stainless steel case and framed by a steel bezel calibrated to a 50–200 tachymeter scale, the movement underscores the transitional importance of the 6262 within Rolex’s chronograph lineage.
The Rolex Daytona “Paul Newman” is unquestionably one of the most iconic collector watches of all time. Its presence in any collection represents both a milestone and a privilege. This example of the 6262 stands out not only for its rarity and historical relevance but also for its truly exceptional, untouched overall condition.
"An extraordinary opportunity to own one of the most celebrated references in vintage horology—an investment-grade timepiece and an essential pillar of any important collection!"
