Rolex Vintage Day-Date – Ref. 1803 – 18k Yellow Gold – German Day Disc – President Bracelet – Bj-1972 – B&S Service 2026
We are pleased to offer this very good Rolex Day-Date, Ref. 1803, an iconic expression of Rolex prestige and timeless elegance, presented here in solid 18k yellow gold with a beautiful champagne pie pan dial and desirable German day disc. Manufactured in 1972, this example represents one of the most refined iterations of the legendary four-digit Day-Date generation, combining classic vintage aesthetics with the technical advantages of the later Rolex calibre 1556 featuring hacking seconds.
Since its introduction in 1956, the Rolex Day-Date has stood at the pinnacle of the Rolex collection. Exclusively crafted in precious metals, it quickly became known as the “President’s Watch,” symbolizing achievement, influence, and enduring sophistication. The Ref. 1803 remains one of the most celebrated vintage Day-Date references, admired by collectors for its elegant proportions, pie-pan dial architecture, and unmistakable presence on the wrist.
Particularly noteworthy is the production year of 1972, placing this watch among the later examples of the Ref. 1803 fitted with the improved Rolex calibre 1556. This movement introduced the highly practical hacking seconds function, allowing for precise time setting while maintaining the legendary reliability, durability, and chronometric performance for which Rolex movements are renowned. The movement just has been serviced by our inhouse watchmaker.
The iconic Day-Date display, featuring the full day aperture at 12 o’clock and the date window at 3 o’clock, remains one of the most recognizable and influential dial layouts in horological history. Combined with the elegant pie-pan dial design and refined proportions of the Ref. 1803, the watch perfectly captures the golden era of vintage Rolex production.
Adding a unique layer of provenance and personal history, the interior caseback bears a contemporary presentation engraving dated 1972, reading “Andenken für Herbert 1972,” accompanied by the name of the gifting lady. Such period engravings offer a fascinating glimpse into the watch’s past and serve as a tangible reminder of the personal stories often carried by treasured timepieces across generations.
"Combining the desirable calibre 1556 with hacking seconds, German calendar discs, a classic champagne dial, and a period presentation engraving dated 1972, this Rolex Day-Date Ref. 1803 is a highly authentic and characterful collector’s piece from one of the most celebrated eras of vintage Rolex production."
