ROLEX Vintage Datejust 36 Ref. 6605 – 18k Yellow Gold – Caramel Dial – Sword Hands – Circa 1959
An exceptional and rare Rolex Datejust Ref. 6605 in 18k yellow gold, featuring a highly attractive caramel dial with sword hands, preserved with original box, produced circa 1959.
We are pleased to present this outstanding Rolex Vintage Datejust Ref. 6605, crafted in solid 18k yellow gold and offered in excellent condition. This rare configuration is distinguished by its warm caramel-colored dial and elegant sword hands, a combination seldom encountered and highly prized by discerning collectors.
Produced circa 1959, the reference 6605 belongs to an important transitional period in Datejust production, bridging early post-war design with the refined aesthetics that would define Rolex in the 1960s. The Tropic or Caramel dial, with its rich, even tonality and subtle depth, exhibits exceptional character and originality, beautifully complemented by applied gold hour markers and period-correct sword hands that lend the watch a distinctive, almost tool-watch-inspired elegance.
The 36 mm Oyster case retains strong proportions and is fitted with a fluted bezel, enhancing the watch’s classic yet assertive presence on the wrist. The date aperture at 3 o’clock, magnified by the Cyclops lens, remains a defining feature of the Datejust line and a hallmark of Rolex innovation.
Powering the watch is the Rolex automatic calibre 1065, a reliable and historically significant movement that helped establish the Datejust as the world’s first self-winding chronometer wristwatch with instantaneous date display.
Adding further appeal, this example is accompanied by its original box, a rare and desirable accessory that enhances both its collectability and provenance.
"Combining rarity, beautiful design, and warm vintage character, this Rolex Datejust Ref. 6605 in 18k yellow gold with caramel dial and sword hands represents an outstanding opportunity to acquire a truly distinctive and elegant vintage Rolex from the late 1950s."
