ROLEX MILGAUSS - Reference 116400 - Stainless Steel - Box & Papers 2016 - Excellent & Unpolished

We are delighted to offer you this excellent Rolex Milgauss in stainless steel on its stainless steel Oyster bracelet with folding clasp.

The Milgauss was introduced in 1956, during a period when scientific research—especially in nuclear labs and engineering—was rapidly expanding. Magnetic fields from equipment could seriously disrupt mechanical watches, causing them to run inaccurately.

Rolex developed the Milgauss specifically to solve this problem. Its name comes from “mille” (French for thousand) and “gauss” (a unit of magnetic field strength), meaning it could resist magnetic fields up to 1,000 gauss—a remarkable achievement at the time. It was closely associated with researchers at institutions like CERN, where strong electromagnetic fields were part of daily work.

The first Milgauss models, such as the Ref. 6541, featured a distinctive lightning-bolt seconds hand, symbolizing electricity and science which Rolex brought the Milgauss back in 2007. 

The elegant white dial with orange hour markers and the distinctive “Milgauss lightning-bolt hand”, it creates a unique aesthetic that combines technology and individuality.
