Rolex GMT-Master II Ref. 116713LN, Stainless Steel and 18k Yellow Gold, Box & Papers 2021, Excellent Condition

The GMT-Master was born in the 1950s as a watch for pilots who needed to keep track of two time zones at once. Today it is one of the great Rolex icons, and the 116713LN shows its more elegant side. Steel and yellow gold, which Rolex calls Rolesor, meet a black dial and a black ceramic bezel. The result is a travel watch that looks just as good with a suit as it does on a long-haul flight.

The 40 mm Oyster case combines Oystersteel with 18 karat yellow gold. With the Triplock crown it is water resistant to 100 meters. The black Cerachrom bezel insert carries the 24-hour scale, with its numerals coated in gold. Ceramic keeps its color and is practically scratch resistant, so the bezel will look as good in many years as it does today. Turning the bezel lets you read a third time zone at a glance.

The black dial is clean and highly legible. The gold framed hour markers are filled with Chromalight and glow blue in the dark, while the gold hands pick up the tone of the bezel and bracelet. The additional 24-hour hand shows the second time zone against the bezel, and the Cyclops lens magnifies the date at 3 o’clock.

Inside works the Rolex caliber 3186, a self-winding movement with a blue Parachrom hairspring. The hour hand can be set independently, so you can change time zones without stopping the watch. The two-tone Oyster bracelet with its gold center links closes with the Oysterlock safety clasp and the Easylink extension, which gives you about 5 mm of extra length.
