Patek Philippe Nautilus Ref. 3700/1A – Stainless Steel – Tritium Sigma Dial – 1977 – Very good Condition
We are proud to present this exceptional vintage Patek Philippe Nautilus Ref. 3700/1A, one of the most iconic and historically significant sports watches ever created. Designed in the 1970s during a transformative era in watchmaking, the Nautilus quickly became a symbol of understated luxury and enduring design.
Crafted in stainless steel and produced in 1977, this remarkable early example is offered in excellent vintage condition, making it a highly desirable acquisition for the discerning collector.
Introduced in 1976 and designed by the legendary watch designer Gérald Genta, the Nautilus revolutionized the concept of the luxury sports watch. Its distinctive 42 mm stainless steel case, inspired by the shape of a ship’s porthole, features the signature rounded octagonal bezel and integrated bracelet that have become hallmarks of the model. Slim, elegant, and instantly recognizable, the Nautilus remains one of the most influential watch designs in modern horology.
The beautiful blue Tritium Sigma dial is a defining feature of this early production piece. The “σ σ” (Sigma) designation at the bottom of the dial indicates the use of solid gold hour markers, a mark of quality used by prestigious Swiss manufacturers during the period. Over time, the tritium lume has developed a warm and attractive patina, enhancing the watch’s vintage character and authenticity.
Powering the watch is the renowned caliber 28-255 C, an ultra-thin automatic movement based on the legendary Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 920 architecture, used exclusively by a small number of elite manufacturers. Celebrated for its technical refinement and reliability, this movement allows the Nautilus to maintain its remarkably slim profile while delivering exceptional performance.
The watch is fitted with its original integrated stainless steel bracelet, perfectly complementing the design and preserving the purity of Genta’s vision.
