PATEK PHILIPPE PERPETUAL CALENDAR CHRONOGRAPH MOON-PHASE – Ref. 5020P-016 – 950 Platinum – Black Diamond Dial – Full Set – 2002 – Patek Service 2023

We are proud to present this excellent rare and important Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Chronograph Moon-Phase Ref. 5020P-016, affectionately known among collectors as the “TV Case.” Crafted in solid 950 platinum and paired with a striking black dial set with diamond hour markers, this piece exemplifies haute horlogerie at its most distinctive and refined.

Originally launched in the mid-1990s, the Ref. 5020 broke away from conventional case design with its bold tonneau-shaped “TV” case, measuring 37mm x 45mm, making it one of Patek Philippe’s most unconventional and collectible perpetual chronographs. Despite initial controversy, the 5020 has since become a cult classic — and platinum variants with factory diamond dials are among the rarest configurations ever produced.

Powering this masterpiece is the manual-winding Caliber CH 27-70 Q, based on the legendary Lemania ébauche and heavily modified by Patek Philippe to exacting standards. The movement is housed behind a solid platinum caseback and recently received a complete service from Patek Philippe, ensuring optimal mechanical performance.

`It is believed that about 200 examples of reference 5020 were ever made, either in yellow, pink or white gold as well as in platinum. Platinum models were available either with a silver dial with Breguet numerals or with a black dial and diamond markers. In fact so rare is the platinum version that only 4 models with silver dial and Breguet numerals and 3 examples with black dial and diamond markers are known to date.´ (Philipps Auctions, Geneva, 11-11-2017 )
