Patek Philippe Grand Complications Minute Repeater Ref. 5078P-010, 950 Platinum, Black Dial, 2011, Unworn, Single Sealed, German Papers

A minute repeater is the most poetic complication in watchmaking. At the push of a slide, the watch strikes the time on tiny gongs: low tones for the hours, a double tone for the quarters and high tones for the minutes. Patek Philippe is regarded by many as the master of this art, and every repeater that leaves the manufacture is personally checked for its sound by the president of the company before it is delivered. The 5078 is the purest expression of this tradition, and in platinum with a black laque dial it is one of the most refined versions ever made.

The 38 mm case is made of 950 platinum. Like every platinum Patek Philippe, it carries a small diamond set into the case band between the lugs at 6 o’clock, a discreet signature only connoisseurs will notice. On the left side of the case sits the slide lever that activates the repeater. The classic, round shape keeps the watch elegant and calm, and the weight of the platinum gives it a quiet presence on the wrist.

The Roman numerals and the slim leaf-shaped hands stand out beautifully against it, and the small seconds at 6 o’clock completes the classic layout. This black dial is most probly the most wanted of the different dial variation.

Inside works the self-winding caliber R 27 PS with a micro-rotor in 22 karat gold. It strikes the hours, quarters and minutes on demand, and through the sapphire caseback you can watch the hammers and gongs at work while the watch chimes.

This Patek Minute is worn on a black aligator strap with 950 platinum pin buckle.

The watch dates from 2011 and is unworn. It is still single sealed, exactly as it left the manufacture, and comes as a full set with box and papers, big lather folder with fotos and special describtions for the Grand Complication, hang tag, invoice, 2nd platinum back, setting pin.
