A. LANGE & SÖHNE Lange 1 Moon Phase Ref. 109.021 18k Yellow Gold Papers Bj-2003 Lange Service 2026
We are delighted to present one of the most quietly significant references in modern German watchmaking: the Lange 1 Moon Phase, Ref. 109.021, executed in the rare and unusual choice of 18 carat yellow gold, a material A. Lange & Söhne has historically favoured far less often than pink gold or platinum.
Introduced as part of the celebrated Lange 1 family, the very watch that announced the rebirth of A. Lange & Söhne following German reunification in 1994, this Moon Phase edition builds upon what is widely regarded as one of the defining dial designs of contemporary haute horlogerie. The asymmetrical layout, with its off centre main dial, oversized patented double window date display, and meticulously calculated proportions, remains as visually distinctive today as it was on its debut, a design language that broke decisively from traditional Swiss dress watch convention.
Housed in a 38.5mm case with a case height of 10.4mm, the watch presents a straw toned silver dial with applied yellow gold Roman numerals and index markers, complemented by a matching yellow gold Alpha style handset. At the 5 o'clock position sits the small seconds and moon phase display, its solid gold moon disc set against a rich blue sky, a complication so precisely calculated that its display will deviate from the actual lunar cycle by only one day after 122.6 years, a level of accuracy conventionally reserved for perpetual calendars. A power reserve indicator completes the dial's carefully balanced composition.
At the heart of the watch beats the manually wound Calibre L901.5, fitted with twin mainspring barrels that deliver an impressive 72 hour power reserve, a hallmark of the Lange 1 collection. Visible through the sapphire exhibition case back, the movement showcases the finishing for which A. Lange & Söhne is celebrated worldwide, untreated German silver plates, hand engraved balance cocks, screwed gold chatons, and the manufacture's distinctive three quarter plate architecture.
Completing the watch is its original brown crocodile leather strap with an 18 carat yellow gold tang buckle, both signed A. Lange & Söhne.

"The Lange 1 Moon Phase in yellow gold pairs one of horology's most poetic complications with a case material A. Lange & Söhne has rarely chosen, making this reference a genuine rarity within an already iconic collection."
