A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1 Ref. 101.002 – “Mark I” – 18k Yellow Gold – 1994 – Solid Case Back – Archive Extract – Serviced 2024 – Excellent Condition
We are proud to present this highly important A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1 Ref. 101.002, an early “Mark I” example of the model that defined the rebirth of German haute horlogerie. Introduced in 1994, the Lange 1 remains one of the most influential watch designs of the modern era, celebrated for its asymmetry, precision, and unmistakable identity.
This early production piece features the coveted solid gold case back, a characteristic of the first-generation models and a detail highly sought after by collectors. It is offered in excellent condition, accompanied by an extract from the archives, and has been professionally serviced by A. Lange & Söhne in 2024.
The 38.5 mm case is crafted in 18k yellow gold, offering classic proportions and a warm, elegant presence on the wrist. The refined case construction, with its stepped bezel and sculpted lugs, reflects the brand’s commitment to both tradition and precision engineering.
The dial displays the iconic Lange 1 layout, featuring an off-center time indication, large outsize date, power reserve indicator, and subsidiary seconds. Despite its asymmetry, the design achieves perfect visual harmony—one of the defining traits that established the Lange 1 as a modern icon.
Powering the watch is the manually wound in-house caliber L901.0, a movement revered among collectors for its technical architecture and traditional finishing. While concealed behind the solid case back on this early example, it is known for features such as untreated German silver plates, blued screws, and gold chatons, along with a power reserve of approximately 72 hours.
The watch is fitted with a leather strap, complementing its timeless aesthetic and ensuring comfortable wear.
