JAEGER Le COULTRE REVERSO Classique - Ref. 250.8.08 - Sainless Steel - Rare Early 1990s Variant with Gold-Inlaid Case Tracks - Papers 1992 - Excellent
Offered here is an exceptionally attractive and increasingly rare Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Classique, reference 250.8.08, dating from 1992 and accompanied by its original German warranty papers.
Housed in a stainless-steel case, this elegant Reverso is powered by a reliable quartz movement and retains all the timeless design codes that have made the model one of the most recognizable watches in horological history. The watch is fitted with a cognac-colored ostrich leather strap and retains its original Jaeger-LeCoultre stainless-steel pin buckle.
What makes this particular example especially desirable is its highly unusual early-1990s configuration featuring gold inlays within the characteristic gadroons (case grooves) of the reversible case. This rarely encountered detail creates a refined two-tone appearance while preserving the understated elegance of the stainless-steel case. Such executions were produced only in limited numbers and are seldom seen on today's collector market.
The reversible case functions smoothly and reveals a personalized engraving, “NK”, on the solid reverse side.
Few watches can claim a history as distinctive as the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso. Created in 1931, the Reverso was born from a challenge posed by British Army officers playing polo in India, who sought a wristwatch capable of withstanding the rigors of the sport. In response, designer René-Alfred Chauvot developed a revolutionary case that could slide and rotate within its cradle, allowing the fragile crystal and dial to be protected during play. The design was patented on March 4, 1931, and quickly became an icon of Art Deco watchmaking.
Over the decades, the Reverso evolved from a practical sports watch into one of the most celebrated luxury watches ever produced. Its distinctive rectangular silhouette, elegant proportions, and ingenious reversible case have remained virtually unchanged for nearly a century, making it one of the few true design icons in watchmaking. The solid reverse side has also become a hallmark of the model, frequently serving as a canvas for engravings, monograms, and personal dedications.
This Reverso Classique is presented with:
- Original warranty papers, Germany 1992
