IWC Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Chronograph Moon, Reference 3755, Black Ceramic, 18k White Gold Bracelet and Case Back, Box and Papers, Year 1995, Mint, Extremely Rare, Four Pieces Known

The Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar was IWC's answer to the quartz crisis, the watch that proved mechanical watchmaking could still do something no quartz movement ever could, and this particular example takes that idea into one of its rarest possible configurations.

The standard 3755 was produced in black or charcoal ceramic in relatively limited numbers of its own, generally put at under two hundred pieces total, made between 1986 and 1995. This example goes further still, fitted with an 18k white gold bracelet and matching white gold case back rather than the leather strap and yellow gold hardware most examples left the factory with, a configuration reportedly limited to just four pieces, making it one of the true unicorns within an already exceptionally rare reference.

The 39mm two body case combines black ceramic with polished 18k white gold elements, including the articulated lugs and bracelet that let the case sit properly on the wrist despite the technical density packed inside. The white dial keeps everything legible despite the complexity underneath, with four sunken subdials handling the moon phase, day, month and 12 hour chronograph register, plus a four digit year indicator that was itself a genuine novelty when Kurt Klaus designed this movement in the 1980s.

That movement is the caliber 79261, built on the Valjoux 7750 chronograph base and reengineered by Klaus into a full perpetual calendar controlled entirely through the crown, no correctors, no pushers hidden in the case band, just a single crown handling everything including the moon phase and leap year.
