Chronoswiss Régulateur à Tourbillon, 950 Platinum, Limited Edition of 99 Pieces, Box & Papers 2006, Munich, Germany, Excellent Condition
Chronoswiss has a special connection to Munich. The brand was founded in 1983 by Gerd-Rüdiger Lang, a watchmaker who loved mechanical watches at a time when the world was turning to quartz. From his workshop near Munich, he built a brand known for its distinctive style and its devotion to traditional watchmaking. The Régulateur à Tourbillon brings together two of the things Chronoswiss is most famous for: the regulator dial and a visible tourbillon.
The 38 mm case is made of 950 platinum and carries the typical Chronoswiss design details: the finely ribbed “coin edge” bezel, the large onion crown and the screwed lugs. The weight of the platinum gives the watch a quiet, substantial presence. Through the sapphire caseback you can admire the movement.
The silver guilloche dial follows the layout of a regulator, the type of clock once used in watchmaking workshops to set other timepieces precisely. The minutes are shown by a large central hand, while the hours sit in a separate subdial at 12 o’clock with Roman numerals. This makes the watch extremely easy to read. At 6 o’clock, an aperture opens onto the flying tourbillon, which turns once a minute and also serves as the seconds display. Watching it rotate is one of the great pleasures of this watch.
Inside works the manually wound Chronoswiss caliber C.361 with a one-minute flying tourbillon and a double barrel, which provides a power reserve of around 72 hours. A tourbillon places the balance and escapement in a rotating cage to compensate for the effects of gravity, one of the most admired complications in watchmaking.
It is worn on a black aligator strap and a Chronoswiss platinum pin buckle.
The watch dates from 2006 and is in excellent condition. It belongs to a limited edition of 99 pieces in platinum and comes as a set with box and papers.
"A fine, limited platinum tourbillon from a brand with Munich roots, and a true rarity for collectors!"
Comes with a one-year warranty through our watch lab.
