Chopard Vintage Coin Watch “10 Dollar- 1894” Ref. 11591, Gold Coin and 18k Yellow Gold Bracelet, 1980

In the 1970s and 80s, coin watches became a symbol of glamour and wit, and Chopard made some of the most beautiful examples. The idea is as clever as it is charming: an original antique American gold coin is carefully cut into two halves, and a slim movement is hidden in between. The front of the coin becomes the dial, the back becomes the caseback. When the watch is closed, it looks almost like a piece of jewelry, and only a closer look reveals that it tells the time.

This watch is made from an original US ten dollar gold coin, a so-called “Eagle”. 1894 and with the design of a Liberty Head and an eagle. The slim black hands sit above the coin without any hour markers, so the coin can speak for itself. Turn the watch over and the American eagle on the reverse appears on the caseback.

The watch is worn on an 18 karat yellow gold Chopard Milanese bracelet, which gives it a soft, supple feel and turns it into a true piece of jewelry for the wrist. The ten dollar coin has a compact size, which makes the watch elegant and versatile.

Inside works a slim manual movement, made to fit within the coin.

The watch dates from 1980 and is in excellent condition. It comes with its box and an old Chopard rservcie letter.
