BLANCPAIN Léman Tourbillon, Case No. 0023, 950 Platinum, 8 Days Power Reserve, Year 1990, Blancpain Service 2026, Excellent
When Blancpain relaunched under Jean-Claude Biver in the 1980s, the brand made a deliberate statement of intent, reviving traditional grand complications at a time when the rest of the Swiss industry was still recovering from the quartz crisis. This early Léman Tourbillon is a direct product of that era, one of the manufacture's first modern tourbillon wristwatches and a genuine piece of Blancpain's post-revival history.
The case is 950 platinum, compact by today's standards at 34mm, with a snap-on case back and worn on a crocodile strap secured with the original platinum Blancpain buckle. Its small case number, 0023, places it early within the production run of this reference, a detail collectors of early Blancpain tourbillons specifically look for when comparing examples.
The dial keeps a traditional, uncluttered layout with applied baton numerals, letting the tourbillon carriage take center stage as the one true focal point rather than competing with additional complications.
Inside runs Blancpain's manual winding tourbillon caliber with an 8 day power reserve, one of the manufacture's celebrated long power reserve movements, built around an oversized mainspring barrel that lets the watch run a full week and a day on a single wind, a genuine technical achievement for a hand wound tourbillon of this vintage. The tourbillon carriage completes one full rotation per minute, hand finished in the understated, old world style Blancpain revived specifically to differentiate itself from the quartz driven watchmaking of the previous decade.
This example is offered as:
