AUDEMARS PIGUET Royal Oak "Jumbo", Reference 5402SA, 39mm, 18k Yellow Gold and Stainless Steel, Grey-Silver Tritium Dial, Box, Year 1978, Excellent

Introduced in 1977, the 5402SA brought Gerald Genta's revolutionary Royal Oak into two-tone territory, pairing brushed steel against polished yellow gold in a way that turned steel itself into something worth treating as precious.

The 39mm case is only 7mm thick, a genuine feat of ultra-thin engineering, with the model's signature octagonal bezel secured by eight hand finished hexagonal screws, alternating brushed and polished surfaces across the integrated bracelet and case.

The amazing slate grey tapisserie dial carries yellow gold hour markers and hands set with a small amount of tritium, aged into a warm golden tone that collectors specifically look for on surviving examples from this early production window.

Inside runs the caliber 2121, based on a movement co-developed with Jaeger-LeCoultre, still regarded as one of the thinnest full-rotor automatic movements ever built and among the most technically refined calibers of its generation.
