Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore "The Beast" – Ref. 25721ST.O.1000ST.01 – Stainless Steel – Box & Papers 1996
We are delighted to present one of the most iconic and historically significant Royal Oak Offshore references ever produced: the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore aka "The Beast". Introduced in 1993 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Royal Oak, this legendary timepiece revolutionized the world of luxury sports watches with its bold proportions, uncompromising design, and unmistakable wrist presence. Today, the first-generation Offshore is regarded as a cornerstone of modern watch collecting and remains one of the most desirable references among enthusiasts worldwide.
Nicknamed "The Beast" for its unprecedented **42 mm** case and imposing profile, the Royal Oak Offshore challenged conventional watchmaking at the time of its release. Designed under the direction of Emmanuel Gueit, it successfully reinterpreted Gérald Genta's legendary Royal Oak into a larger, more athletic and contemporary form - one that would ultimately define an entirely new category of luxury sports watches.
Crafted from stainless steel, the case features the unmistakable octagonal bezel secured by eight polished white gold screws, complemented by the signature black rubber gasket that became one of the defining characteristics of the original Offshore. The beautifully executed combination of satin-brushed surfaces and polished bevels showcases Audemars Piguet's exceptional expertise in case finishing, while the integrated stainless steel bracelet provides outstanding comfort and unmistakable presence on the wrist.
The iconic navy blue "Petite Tapisserie" dial features the classic tri-compax chronograph layout with contrasting white gold applied hour markers and luminous hands, delivering outstanding legibility while preserving the unmistakable aesthetic of the earliest Offshore generation. The combination of the deep blue dial, black gasket and robust stainless steel construction has become one of the most recognizable and sought-after configurations in the history of the Royal Oak Offshore collection.
Powering the watch is the renowned Jaeger based Audemars Piguet Calibre 2226/2840, combining a highly refined automatic base movement with a Dubois-Dépraz chronograph module. Celebrated for its reliability and historical significance, this movement powered the earliest Royal Oak Offshore models and played a defining role in establishing the Offshore as one of the most influential luxury sports chronographs ever created. Visible through the solid case construction, the movement remains a testament to the manufacture's pursuit of robust performance and mechanical excellence during a pivotal era in its history.
