Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore “The Beast” Ref. 25721ST – Stainless Steel – MK1 – Micro Tapisserie Dial – 1994 – Excellent Condition – Rare
We are pleased to present this exceptional and highly collectible Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Ref. 25721ST, the legendary first-generation Offshore known among collectors as “The Beast.”
Manufactured in stainless steel and dating to 1994, this rare early-production example features the coveted Micro Tapisserie dial and original double folding clasp, representing one of the most important modern sports watches ever produced.
Introduced in 1993 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Royal Oak, the Royal Oak Offshore was a revolutionary departure from traditional luxury sports watch design. Conceived by designer Emmanuel Gueit, the model dramatically increased the dimensions and presence of the original Royal Oak, creating a bold and uncompromising aesthetic that initially divided opinion but ultimately transformed the luxury watch industry.
Nicknamed “The Beast” upon its release due to its unprecedented 42 mm case size and robust construction, the Ref. 25721ST has become one of the most sought-after vintage Audemars Piguet sports watches. The imposing stainless steel case, visible gasket beneath the bezel, and signature octagonal design remain instantly recognizable and continue to influence sports watch design to this day.
This early example features the desirable Micro Tapisserie dial and a butterfly folding clasp, a characteristic detail found on the earliest Offshore productions. The finely textured dial, combined with the oversized luminous markers, subsidiary chronograph registers, and date display, creates a distinctive appearance that is both highly functional and unmistakably Audemars Piguet.
Powering the watch is the automatic Audemars Piguet Caliber 2226/2840, a chronograph movement renowned for its reliability and performance. Protected by the robust Offshore case construction, the movement helped establish the Offshore as a genuine luxury sports watch capable of withstanding active daily wear while maintaining exceptional mechanical sophistication.
