Alain Silberstein Krono Bauhaus, Stainless Steel, White Dial with Black Outer Scale Sub Dial, Limited Edition of 500 Pieces, Full Set
Few watchmakers have a style as recognizable as Alain Silberstein. Trained as an architect and interior designer, he founded his own watch brand in 1987 in Besançon, the historic heart of French watchmaking. His inspiration came from the Bauhaus, the famous German design school of the 1920s, with its primary colors and pure geometric shapes. Silberstein brought that spirit to the wrist, and the result was a watch that looks like nothing else: playful, bold and full of joy. One of the early independent watchmakers!
The case is made of stainless steel and has the clean, functional design that suits the Bauhaus idea perfectly. It is a sturdy, well-built chronograph case that lets the dial take center stage. The crown and pusher are in yellow, blue red and in round, square and triangled form.
The dial is a small piece of design history. The white center is framed by a black outer scale, and the round subdials of the chronograph give the layout a clear, graphic structure. The hands are what make every Silberstein watch unmistakable: each one has its own geometric shape and primary color, triangle, square and circle in red, blue and yellow, exactly as the Bauhaus taught. Reading the time becomes a pleasure in itself.
Inside works a self-winding chronograph Lemania movement cal.5100 .
The watch is worn on a strap in red, blue and yellow, the three Bauhaus primary colors, with a steel folding clasp. It picks up the colors of the hands and completes the design.
The watch dates from around 1990 (not filled out) and is in very good condition. It belongs to a limited edition of 500 pieces and comes as a full set with box and papers, limitation certificate - no. 124/500.
„A compleately undervalued 1980ies design piece and charming chronograph that turns the time into art. A fine tribute to one of the most influential design schools of the 20th century!"
